History of the Flushing Lions
Club
The Flushing Lions Club will mark the 55th
anniversary in 1997. The Club was organized on January 20, 1942 by
Ellsworth G. Whalen. The Club was sponsored by the Flint (Downtown)
Lions. The Club elected Robert T. Scafe, President, Dr. W. J. Brammse
Secretary and Paul G. Shepard Treasurer. The original membership
consisted of 31 none are still active. Meetings were held on the 1st
& 3rd Tuesdays at the Commuity Center (Now Flushing City
Hall)

The records indicate that this group was a
cross section of the community they would serve. In their first year
of operation they conducted a scrap iron collection. For the younger
generation that may seem like an odd project, but the Flushing Lions
came into existence one month after Pearl Harbor.
