Welcome Veterinarians

THE CLINIC'S ROLE IN PET AFTER DEATH CARE

Who would use a pet cemetery facility?

The relationship between the pet owner and the veterinarian is built on trust. We realize pets (dogs & cats) are living longer because of the advancement in veterinary care. Many pet owners will have multiple pets in their lifetime. Yet, there is always the unexpected illness or unavoidable death of a pet. Sooner or later we all must die. Many people do not know how to handle death in any form, either human or pet.

"Humans bury humans because they have to,

humans bury pets because they want to."

Unlike the family doctor (M.D) , a good relationship between the veterinarian and pet owner will last longer than the lifetime a single pet. A person will, over a lifetime, own 3 or more pets. Therefore, success as a businessperson, the veterinarian must be aware and treat the after care of pet death much differently than they did 5-10 years ago. Modern society has provided traditional methods of handling the death of a human. Unlike the family doctor, the veterinarian and staff have been given the task of providing the methods of final disposition of after death care of a client's pet. Only since 1990 has an effort been made to establish the veterinarian/pet cemetery partnership of caring for after death of a pet. How the after death care of one pet is treated by the clinic will affect future service of other pets the owner may have with that clinic.

A simple guide for the clinic on how to handle this sensitive matter.

There are several methods of after pet death care that should be clearly discussed with a client; clinic disposal, pet cemetery burial or cremation, or the client may wish to take care of the matter themselves. We can help you answer these major questions.

What is clinic policy? How does the pet cemetery fit in?

Prior to 1990 there was only one option, clinic disposal, the local Animal Control Department. There were few other services available.

Pet Rest Gardens, Genesee County's only Pet Cemetery has been providing area veterinarians our very successful CADS program (Companion Animal Disposal Service) since 1993.

"A person would never think to leave any deceased human member of their family at the doctor's office or hospital, so take the time to provide decent after death care for your client's pet."

Why didn't my Veterinarian Advise me About Pet Rest Gardens?

Why didn't my Veterinarian Advise me that I can have my pet's cremains back?

Why didn't my Veterinarian Advise me that I can have a place for my pet when it dies?

We get these questions all the time,

WHY?

Unlike our competitors, WE GUARANTEE CREMAINS RETURNED ARE THOSE OF THE PET WE RECEIVE, NOT A REPRESENTATION.

We have been processing cremations from Mid and South Eastern Michigan to the Thumb since 1993. Our cremation service is the only one that provides a 24 hour or same day certified private cremation. A private cremation is the only pet in the crematory, an individual cremation is processed with others during the same cycle.

We also allow clients to attend their pet's cremation.
